Routine carpet cleaning

Use your vacuum cleaner to clean your carpet more often. The suction force should be strong to ensure that all dust is blown out of the fibre. If you don’t have a vacuum cleaner, use a carpet sweeper or broom.

While doing routine clean up, adhere to the following:

• Place the carpet in an open place or remove all the furniture and other items from the carpet
• Vacuum slowly with the vacuum cleaner at an appropriate height for stronger suction. Also, concentrate more on high traffic areas for better results.
• If there are crumbs on the carpet, use a lint roller as it offers quicker clean-ups. 

Carpet spot cleaning

Spot cleaning is vital in case you want to remove a stain from your carpet. Always remove stains soon as they occur – it’s easier to remove a fresh stain than a dried one. Blot away immediately all liquid spills with a moist white towel or paper towel. Avoid using clothes or napkins that aren’t colourfast. Use a dull knife, cardboard piece, or edge of a credit card to lift away the solid dirt like dropped food or mud stain. Avoid rubbing a stain – this action pushes it further into the fibres.

Note that red wine, ink, coffee, and nail polish are the most stubborn stains.

Carpet deep cleaning:

Deep cleaning is essential in removing heavy soil, brightening the carpet colour, and restoring fibre buoyancy. Carpet cleaners combine detergent and steep to offer a deeper cleaning. Alternatively, they use a heavy-duty steam cleaner alongside carpet shampoo.

If you lack carpet cleaning know-how, you should opt for higher professional carpet cleaners, especially if you have a wall-to-wall carpet. Deep carpet cleaning sydney is recommended once a year.  Regardless of the deep-leaning method, always start by vacuuming your carpet to remove the loose material; else, you’ll be pushing the dirt deeper into the carpet or spreading it around.

Deep cleaning methods include:

Distilled White Vinegar. This is a mixture of water and vinegar; dampen (but do not saturate) using the vinegar solution and let it stay for about five minutes. Blot away the solution and dirt using a microfibre cloth. Periodically rinse the fibre in clean water. Air-dry the carpet after cleaning.

Baking Soda and Salt. Have a 1:1 salt baking soda in a bowl, thoroughly mix, and then sprinkle liberally on the carpet. Spray with plain water using a spray bottle, and scrub in one direction (also turn to 90 degrees to lift the dirt and soil). Finally, use a rag to wipe away the loose soil. To remove the remaining baking soda, use a vacuum cleaner.
